Lanzarote & Fuerteventura are very popular for UK and Irish weddings, it’s not just the beautiful location and our all year round warm climate, it can actually cost less to arrange your special day here than back home.
It is not currently possible for non residents to have a legal wedding ceremony in Lanzarote.
Couples usually arrange their legal civil ceremony in a registry office at home before flying out. Many choose not to mention this or invite their friends and family, other than their witnesses required. To all intents and purposes, the wedding day is the service in Lanzarote and the anniversary of that date celebrated in years to come.
Whilst a wedding / marriage celebrant may not have any legal authority, this does not detract from the actual service, which still carries all the grandeur and emotional presence of a wedding.
Couples can choose to adapt the blessing / humanist / non-religious service to include special readings, favourite music, personal vows and sand ceremonies to personalise their beliefs and lifestyle.
With a celebrant service, the wedding venue is not limited, anything from an intimate wedding on the beach to a 5* star hotel is a possibility. However I’d always advise using a wedding planner to arrange even a small ceremony. They take all the headache out of organising it all, and they will apply for the necessary permits, for example, for a beach ceremony. Get in touch and I will recommend one.
